POG426 Contemporary Global Conflicts

Hello Students from POG426. Thank you for choosing to participate in the MUN conference as part of your course. This will be an exciting introduction to one of the many ways that international conflicts are dealt with in the real world. We aim to simulate the debate style and forum of the United Nations, but on a smaller and faster scale to make it more fun.

Registration for the event should be done in class, or via email. Please get in touch with Dr. Peou about the class component of the conference, or through the contact information we provide on this site. We will do our best to answer your MUN related questions.

As a member of the class you shall be participating in the General Assembly committee, the UN First Committee. The topics being debated coincide with the course themes and topics discussed throughout the semester. The first topic is the state of Libya after the NATO intervention. The Second topic is intervention in Syria. With the third topic being the Responsibility to Protect.

These are all very dynamic issues facing the international community. As a delegate you will be representing a country in the United Nations, working with the other delegates it is up to you to resolve the crisis as best as you can through the parliamentary debate in the General Assembly.

For the POG426 students that have chosen to participate this will be a 1 day event, following the posted schedule of event (under information-schedule). We encourage delegates to opt to participate in the second day to get the full experience and also have the opportunity to attend out St. Patrick's Day social being hosted at various locations throughout Toronto.

For Ryerson Students there is a $20 charge to attend the conference. As a student in the POG426 course, we are waiving the registration fee. If you would like to attend the second day, as well as the social there will be a $12.00 charge.
